He called it the cheapest way into the Mac ecosystem, though he noted it struggles with modern games and that its power button sits awkwardly on the underside. Our review unit had a 512GB SSD rather than this model’s 256GB, but it used the same M4 chip and 16GB of memory.</p><h2 id="price-context-amp-historical-value-4">Price Context &amp; Historical Value</h2><p>Apple <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/2026/05/01/mac-mini-now-starts-at-799/">raised the Mac mini’s starting price to $799</a> earlier this year as memory costs surged, so this $150 discount is measured against Apple’s real current price rather than an inflated list price. It’s still more than the $599 the M4 Mac mini launched at, and well above the sub-$500 deals we saw before the price hike.
